Solar power for the Longmoore estate welcomed!

Wanting to provide a long lasting benefit, local Pimlico councillors Jim Glen, Ed Pitt Ford and Jacqui Wilkinson secured funds from the Council and from elsewhere to install solar panels on the Longmoore estate.

These panels will reduce the amount of electricity that the building imports from the grid.

This will bring down the cost of communal electricity that supplies the corridor lights and lifts. We forecast that the array will reduce electricity costs by more than £1,000 per year over its 30-year lifetime. At the next major works program the whole estate will be reviewed for solar suitability and more panels may be added. Given the cost of living, however, your councillors wanted to install something as soon as possible so that the savings could begin.

The array will also help with carbon savings, supporting the targets set by the previous Conservative administration of a Net Zero Council by 2030. Cllr Ed Pitt Ford explains, “In many cases, solar panels now make financial sense to install without Government subsidy, and it is worth investigating whether they may be suitable for your home or building.”
