Safe streets, clean city, and a partnership with Lime…

Westminster Conservatives have stepped up enforcement against poorly parked dockless bikes, with fixed penalty notices to operators up by almost 200% since taking office. The Council has also removed more than 230 obstructive bikes from the streets and introduced new measures to improve accountability and keep Westminster's pavements safe and accessible.

This article is in the Westminster Extra, and you can read it here.

Safe streets, clean city, and a partnership with Lime…

In May Westminster Conservatives were elected on a clear promise: safe streets, a clean city and real action.

That included tackling the dockless bike chaos we inherited from Labour.

Since taking office, I am proud to lead a Conservative administration that is delivering on that promise with a complete reset of dockless bike enforcement.

We have agreed a real-time data sharing partnership with Lime, giving the city council live visibility of where every bike is parked across Westminster.

For the first time our enforcement teams can see exactly where bikes are being abandoned, target problem areas directly and act with evidence.

Conservative delivery in action.

The results are clear.

FPN, fixed penalty notices, to operators are up 196 per cent on average since we took office.

June was up 208 per cent.

July is already up 183 per cent and rising.

Every month since this Conservative administration took office, enforcement has intensified.

That is what it looks like when a Conservative council means what it says.

But we are going further. This Conservative-led council is now seizing bikes directly from the city’s streets.

Two hundred and thirty-five bikes have been removed from pavements, dropped kerbs and fire exits so far, making Westminster's streets work for local people.

Operators pay removal and storage costs before a single bike is returned.

Actions have consequences.

That is a Conservative principle, and it is now Westminster policy.

This week this council is bringing operators to the table at a dockless bike operator summit for a long-term solution on parking standards and real accountability.

Westminster Labour promised fine collections and delivered empty threats.

That culture is over.

This Conservative-led administration is delivering real action for a city that works for all.

Promises made, promises kept on safe streets and dockless bike enforcement.

BBC London: Westminster Council calls on the Mayor to support Soho businesses

Tuesday, 11 August, 2026
Cllr Tim Barnes explains that just two Westminster wards, West End and St James's, account for 26% of all "small crime" across the whole of London, which he says is exactly why some regulation of venues is necessary. He again pointed to the Mayor's record on transport as the bigger barrier to a good night out, saying Sadiq Khan "keeps cutting the night buses and won't bring in a late-night tube service on Thursdays."
