Council tax rising to pay for Labour’s managed decline

Westminster Labour plans to increase council tax by 75%

Labour-led Westminster Council is planning to hike council tax by a staggering 75 per cent over the next four years while failing to deliver value for money for local people.

We spoke with the Conservative Leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Paul Swaddle, to find out more. Paul explained,

Across Westminster, local people are braced to expect higher council tax bills while crime spirals, public realm standards decline and Labour fail to deliver on the basics.

Let’s set the record straight on the cost of Westminster Labour.

  • Crime is out of control.
  • Public realm standards are declining.
  • Homelessness and rough sleeping are at record levels.
  • £27 million wasted on failing housing contractor, Geoffrey Osborne, because of poor financial oversight.
  • Vanity projects, empty consultations and playground politics.

To reward their record of failure, Westminster Labour cabinet members gave themselves pay rises of up to 57 per cent, plus expenses.

While Labour-led Westminster wastes public money and awards itself pay rises, it has failed to stand up for local families by backing the Labour Government’s Family Home Tax.

This is the Same Old Labour story: higher bills, , more waste, lower standards.

Worse street safety. Worse public spaces. Worse value for money.

Westminster deserves leadership that treats public money with respect.

Westminster Conservatives will restore financial competence, value for money and delivering on the priorities of local people: safe streets, a clean city and real action.
