The future for UK financial services: An Economic Perspective

We are delighted to welcome the economist and commentator, Simon French, to join us as Guest of Honour at the 2025 CLWCA Annual Economics Dinner. Simon will speak about the future of financial services and the implications for the UK’s economy. This talk will be followed by an in-depth question-and-answer session.

The event will be held at a private members' club in St James's in central London, with a pre-dinner drinks reception starting at 6:30 pm, sitting down to dinner at 7 pm prompt.

Our Annual Economics Dinner is organised by the Marylebone Branch of the Cities of London & Westminster Conservative Association.

For security reasons, venue details will be shared with guests 24 hours beforehand. If you have any questions about the dinner, please get in touch.

The private members' club has a dress code which attendees are expected to follow. Gentlemen are required to wear a jacket, collar and tie, no cravats. Ladies are expected to wear commensurate business or formal day wear.

Simon French portraitAbout Simon French

Simon French is the Managing Director, Chief Economist and Head of Research of Panmure Liberum.

Simon joined Panmure Gordon in 2014 and is now Chief Economist and Head of Research at the UK’s largest independent investment bank.

He has been an economics columnist for The Times for the past eight years, is number one in the City of London Extel broker rankings, and is a regular guest on BBC Radio 4, Bloomberg and CNBC.

Prior to joining Panmure Gordon, Simon French worked for the UK government at the Cabinet Office as Chief of Staff, and as an economic adviser at the Department for Work & Pensions.

He played a key role in implementing the coalition government’s spending reforms between 2010 and 2014, as well as the UK’s welfare and pensions reforms between 2002 and 2008.
