This week, the Union Flag will fly outside Westminster City Hall to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday. While many of the planned commemorative activities will no longer take place, it is more important than ever that we take this time to reflect on the vital role the Armed Forces have always played in supporting and protecting this nation. 75 years ago we celebrated victory over a totalitarian regime and today the Armed Forces play an equally vital role in the battle against an unseen enemy, running testing centres, building the Nightingale hospitals and delivering PPE.
Council Leader Cllr Rachael Robathan said, "I urge all Westminster residents to join the nation’s two minute silence at 11am on Friday morning both to honour all those who fought, and in so many cases lost their lives, in the Second World War and also to give thanks to the incredible servicemen and women who continue to dedicate their lives to keeping this country safe.
